Synopsis

In a context where the value of knowledge is increasingly measured by its immediate profitability, Philosophy for Practice brings together a series of works that demonstrate how philosophical reflection can substantively intervene in contemporary social, political, and institutional problems. Far from conceiving philosophy as an abstract exercise detached from the world, the essays in this volume showcase its capacity to clarify normative dilemmas, identify persistent injustices, and provide relevant conceptual tools for public deliberation and the design of public policy.

The book gathers nine essays on practical philosophy produced within the Argentine Society of Philosophical Analysis (SADAF), an institution with more than half a century of history in rigorous and pluralistic reflection. Through the use of sophisticated analytical tools, the authors address issues as diverse as gender inequalities, hate speech, democracy, sovereign debt, climate change, intergenerational justice, and methods of moral justification. Taken together, the volume offers a sample of the professional and rigorous philosophical work developed at SADAF, and the kind of contributions this work can make to multiple aspects of public debate in our societies.
