Desarrollo científico y cambio de léxico: Conferencias Thalheimer 1984
Synopsis
En 1984, Thomas Kuhn dictó las conferencias Thalheimer en el Departamento de Filosofía de la Universidad Johns Hopkins. Entre el 12 y el 19 de noviembre, Kuhn ofreció cuatro conferencias bajo el título conjunto “Desarrollo científico y cambio léxico”.
Las conferencias se centran en la filosofía de la ciencia de orientación histórica que estaba emergiendo y en las estrategias que el historiador debe aplicar para comprender las teorías científicas tempranas. Kuhn también desarrolla la noción de léxico, sosteniendo que el lenguaje de las teorías científicas constituye el mundo de los científicos. Así, un cambio en el léxico implica un cambio en el mundo que la comunidad científica concibe como describible mediante el lenguaje.
A causa de los cambios léxicos, el historiador debe reconstruir las teorías del pasado utilizando el lenguaje propio de esas teorías, independientemente de que dicho lenguaje sea o no aceptado en la actualidad.
El borrador de las conferencias permaneció inédito y sin traducir a ningún idioma durante más de tres décadas. En este volumen, dichos borradores se presentan por primera vez en una edición crítica en español.
