Sinopsis

Se ha supuesto desde la Antigüedad que la capacidad para formarnos una imagen precisa del entorno y de nosotros mismos es vital para nuestra supervivencia, bienestar y constitución moral. Sin embargo, el fenómeno del autoengaño, que ha intrigado a pensadores de las más diversas perspectivas desde Platón hasta Sartre, parece desafiar este supuesto. Clásicamente examinado dentro del ámbito de la filosofía, en las últimas décadas disciplinas como la psicología, las neurociencias, la biología evolucionista y las ciencias sociales se han interesado de manera creciente en él. En este libro se analizan los principales problemas filosóficos y científicos sobre el autoengaño, tanto en lo que respecta a los enigmas conceptuales que genera como a sus dimensiones prácticas, incluyendo sus implicaciones morales, sus posibles consecuencias para nuestra salud y felicidad, y la posibilidad de autoengaño colectivo.
